The Taurus Personality Explained

In this article we're going to look at the typical personality traits of those born under the zodiac sign of Taurus. As a brief aside, however, I think it might be useful to briefly clarify what these terms actually mean.

After all, to many the zodiac itself is something of a mystery. This is not a subject taught in school! Let's begin with the basics: what does the word 'zodiac' actually mean? Well, this is actually a Greek word that literally means "Circle of animals". It should be noted that Libra is the only star sign not symbolized by a living creature, but instead we use a glyph of the scales.

By understanding the zodiac as a circle that is divided into twelve segments, we can get a clearer picture of how astrologers work. What is key, is the placement of planetary spheres within each segment, and the angles that are formed between them.

Okay, so to understand Taurus we first need to recount the mythology. Basically, Zeus disguised himself as a white bull and carried a woman called Europa over the sea to the island of Crete. Historians will have already realized that this woman eventually gave her name to the continent Europe!

Taurus traits are simple to understand. Such individuals are resilient, patient, persistent and reliable. They are trusting and caring in relationships. In fact, Taurus does place emphasis on cultivating successful, stable relationships. This star sign is regarded as the one that is most prone to hedonism. People with this star sign are often sensual people who like to feel rather than think.

Following on from this, Taurus is not an intellectual but someone who feels and uses their intuition to guide them. This trait can be a negative, however, as they are very reluctant to change their opinions about something, even in the face of contradictory evidence!

When it comes to work, these individuals are usually very good at practical, hands-on tasks. You can generally rely on Taurus to fix mechanical problems and other things of that nature.

Star signs rule different areas of the body, and Taurus oversees the throat and neck. Due to this, astrology draws the conclusion that these people must be liable to throat infections and asthma. Although there is no evidence to support this, I think Taurus can be at risk from being overweight but that can apply to any sign!

On the negative side, Venus rules Taurus. In of itself, this fact is not negative, but Taurus can be dispensed to jealousy and stubbornness. Taurus is slow to anger, but if provoked they will defend their territory like the bull.

Cosmic Legend of Beginnings

As my energies always spur you on to new beginnings, I'd like to convey to you one of my favorite legends about the inauguration of this sector of the universe.

Once upon a time (that's how they all start), a most handsome young man named Willy was mesmerized by a beautiful young woman named Lovey. Although Lovey felt the same attraction for Willy, she knew if she was too easy, it would spoil his fun of the chase.

Willy and Lovey

Willy was strong, powerful, courageous and most smart. Lovey, just like her name implies, was most loving as well as graceful, caring and incredibly intuitive. Once the chase was over and Willy believed he had won Lovey over, they began to dream and talk about their future.

Bubbling Over with Ideas

Like most young people, they were dissatisfied with those in charge and were sure they could do a better job if given the chance. They bubbled over with ideas of forwarding the advancement of the Universe and decided to take a big risk.

Great Central Sun

Willy and Lovey requested an audience with the Great Central Sun who is the Center of the Cosmos, the point of origin of all physical and spiritual creation in this cosmos. In other words, the Great Central Sun was the big boss then for the cosmos we reside in. They petitioned him to grant them a piece of the cosmos to homestead and let them try out their notions. Willy and Lovey's concepts sounded so delicious and exciting, the Great Central Sun readily said yes to a pilot project but most far away from the center of the Milky Way.

More Formal Please

The Great Central Sun did want them to become more formal, at least until they proved their theories to be most beneficial. Why didn't Willy just become Will, and Lovey just Love? Why not, thought Willy and Lovey, when they showed their worth, they could always revert if they wanted. Besides, in private, they could continue to be just Willy and Lovey with each other.

God and Goddess Titles

As well, the Great Central Sun bequeathed them the titles of God and Goddess to give them the stature he thought they would need. Willy became the God of Will and Lovey became the Goddess of Love.

No Interference

The Great Central Sun knew just where to send them, far away. That would ensure there would be no interference with the learning curve Willy and Lovey would be going through.

Duality of Will/Love

You guessed it; the elevated God of Will and the Goddess of Love were assigned to this segment of the cosmos which was virgin territory. Immediately, they emptied all existing energies, filling this slice of the cosmos with their two energies. Everything and everyone that would materialize would have at its core, the duality of Will/Love. What would make them unique would be the parts that would be activated and those still dormant.

Taking Turns

They would take turns, when the God of Will was in charge, a patriarch or a male dominated civilization would manifest. When the Goddess of Love was lighting the way, it would be a matriarch inspired era with the feminine characteristics being awakened. The God of Will began the process with a really big bang powered by all his force. He began to manifest the separate parts of their joint plan.

Zodiac Parents

You could say Willy and Lovey or the God of Will and the Goddess of Love are my parents, as I'm one of their manifestations, just like all the other zodiacs. I'm composed of both Will and Love, just like you. And just like you, if you have more Will, you would take on a male physical form. If you are composed more of feminine Love energy, you express yourself through a female body. However, even if in a female body, when the God of Will was leading the charge, your Will characteristics were being stimulated. The Transforming Power of Pluto in the Birth Chart

The last of the outer planets, Pluto's influence and significant power is a force we all have to go along with. Like everything in our Birth Charts, the more we understand the more we align to our inner being and source. It is important to grasp the meaning of your own personal Pluto so that you can appreciate its intention, which sometimes may seem painful, cruel, but so necessary of our own growth.

I equate Pluto with psychology, as it is to do with the mind and what is going on underneath. As the mind is the original source of our actions and attitudes, our thought forms and beliefs often keep us stuck on the wheel of repetition and in a prison of our own making. Pluto's aim is to release us from these old patterns. As we are creatures of habit we often see our liberation as a cruel force of fate, a betrayal or a loss of some kind. Pluto will take away anything that restricts our growth which then allows the energy to operate in a new way. A lot of our security is contained in established forms which we naturally hold on to. When these are destroyed or taken away we feel lost, a victim or powerless. Pluto is very much to do with power and this same power that pulled the rug from under our feet will also give us the Will-power to build again in a fresh way. It often seems that we have no choice with Pluto, as like death its actions are final.

Pluto can also work like a boil, bringing all the inflamed toxins up to the surface ready to burst and be released. Things in us that have been festering in the sub-conscious, been suppressed or kept secret will emerge and come to the surface when the time is ripe for us to deal with them. Although the time can never feel right and even may feel inappropriate. Our outworn attitudes and limited belief systems can also come up to bite us, as Pluto forces us to confront these patterns. This maybe in the form of other people, which will keep us in a victim mentality. However, by looking deeply within for reasons and answers is a much more productive way of working with Pluto.

Nature kills or destroys for the sake of growth, which from our limited perception often seems cruel. Pluto has this same quality and the more we grow in consciousness, the further we will be able to comprehend the essence of this transforming energy.

Pluto in the Birth Chart

Pluto's house position will show an area that will go through some transformation. We will be confronting old patterns of ego consciousness or personality traits that no longer serve us or that are interfering with our evolutionary growth, as this is Pluto's chief concern. Energy tied up in this area will be challenged and changed in some way. The sign will show what type of attitude may need to change. For example In Leo the fixed ego structure of pride or self-importance. In Virgo, earning a living may turn into a sense of service or in Libra relationships will come under scrutiny, highlighting the need to redefine and rebalance.

Being an outer planet it works on a mass conscious scale and its present passage through Capricorn is bringing to light wrongly managed and corrupt traditional structures. This is causing chaos with business and banking establishments, which is a strong Capricorn theme. Cut backs are also very apt for this present transit through Capricorn,especially as it has been spend, spend, spend when this planet travelled through Sagittarius! There will be much more to come up to the surface and like a boil it will eventually burst before transformation can and will take place. Like the Phoenix new and better structures will be built from the remnants of the old.

Aspects to Pluto in the Birth Chart

Pluto not only intensifies the area of a chart but any planets it touches by aspect. This planet, like all planets can be used negatively or positively, but Pluto, like no other, can go to the depths and the heights. The greatest sinners make the greatest saints because once this energy operates from to its original higher frequency,it works for the highest good of the whole.

Working with colour, red aspects, (squares and Oppositions), Pluto may be seen as authority. You may then try to impose your own authority or fight others in powerful positions. Alternatively you may use this to achieve your aims or to change things for the benefit of others.

With blue aspects, (trines and sextiles), you could willingly go along with the transformation. For example, with a logical acceptance that change must happen. Alternatively, blue aspects have a fixed quality within them, therefore you may think that you are right and have no need for change. It is often in situations like this that a strong Pluto transits moves you out of your complacency,usually kicking and screaming!

With green aspects, (semi-sextiles and quincunx), you will usually look for information that helps to give you 'knowhow' to a situation or problem. You may also see knowledge as power or seek higher knowledge to stretch your consciousness towards greater possibility.
