Birth Chart Astrology: Uranus ' The Awakener'

Having wrote about the Ego and the Tool planets, I now move on to the 'Outer' planets. There are three of them, which have been aptly named 'the Ambassadors of the Universe'. All the other planets can be seen by the naked eye, and this corresponds to our natural psychological drives that we use automatically. However, a telescope is needed to see the 'outer' planets, we need to develop deeper insight. This reflects our need to stretch and grow into the energies that these planets represent. They are part of our Solar system and we all have these higher qualities of potential within us. As the old axiom goes, 'As above so below'. The more one studies astrology the more this statement is apparent! These outer planets remind us that we are part of a greater whole. Although we all need to learn to cultivate their qualities within ourselves, indeed this is part of our evolution, they should come with a statement that says, 'not for personal use only!' At some point in our lives we must acknowledge that we are part of the collective consciousness.

Uranus--The Awakener

Like the other two planets. Uranus is part of our 'higher self' that enables us to connect to the collective consciousness. It is an active creative intelligence, not just an academic intelligence. It is of a higher mind that can perceive better ways to do things or look for new alternatives. It is the inventor, the rebel and the true individual who sees the madness of the crowd and choose to go his or her own way or tries to convince others that there are better alternatives. Uranus awakens us to new possibilities and to wider choices and can bring out our uniqueness; this being our very own individual qualities that are the results of the process of our own evolutionary journey.

The Revolutionary Spirit

Technology and the internet has revolutionised our lives and the people who have pioneered this would have been operating from Uranus. Mercury, if you remember, represented our communication skills. Uranus is said to be the higher octave of Mercury, therefore its range is wider and of a higher dimension. Because of this it can amass, store and organise much more information with speed and accuracy. It is very much associated with intuition, which is the sixth sense that humanity is in the process of developing. Learning to trust this, is something we all need to do.

Having a great idea, creating a new vision, for example, restoring an old property. The world is forever changing. Political and social structures change. It is the Uranus in us that wakes up the need to revisit how we address issues in more appropriate ways. This reinforces the Uranuian influence from the personal to the collective. It is literally our ability to be able to 'think out of the box'.

It is a revolutionary Spirit that needs freedom to be him or herself and looks for a new form of security as he pushes the boundaries to create both. 'The Entrepreneur' is very much a Uranuian Archetype in this respect. This is the quantum leap from Saturn to Uranus. A strong Uranuian quality gives a person the confidence to rebuild or create again, even when left with nothing. This is true security, as the creative and inventive impulse is within, therefore Uranus need not be too attached to anything!

Uranus in the Birth Chart

Because of its higher vibrations Uranus can quicken or make erratic any planet it touches. If it has an aspect to Mercury, a planet of natural affinity, it can make one highly strung. (Mercury is much to do with the nervous system) It can also give you an aptitude for technology or an interest in anything of higher mind or even the occult. In conjunction with the Sun, Uranus will be developing and expressing its own individuality. To give you an example of this; a man I know well has Sun conjunct Uranus in Cancer. He is a lovely caring and sensitive chap, but he has not got a strong sense of self. He uses his Uranus to be awkward as this is the only way he can be assertive. This is part of his process in developing his individuality, and from time to time we all play a somewhat suffering part in this!

Uranus in aspect to the Moon, we could be in the process of becoming more independent of our family dynamics. Wanting to be different or maybe feeling different in some way, could well make you feel like the black sheep, as you do not want to conform.

Uranus with Venus may need freedom within a relationship or look for different types of partnerships that allow the 'whacky' in us to be expressed. It could also add flair or anything that makes a statement to the Feminine.

Mars and Uranus could well produce the rebel or a strong need to assert ones' independence and authority.

Jupiter's love of freedom and higher vision mixes well with Uranus and they have many similarities, the difference being that Jupiter can become attached to its opinions, beliefs and any material bounty. Although Jupiter looks for the bigger picture, Uranus knows it and is aware of the greater plan for the Universe. It has a greater sense of wholeness and is part of the divine spark of individuality, which we all need to reach.

Not for Personal Use Only!

In the process of our evolutionary growth we are learning to harness the higher energy of Uranus. On a personal level it is the essence of our individuality, which belongs to our higher-self, and is not of the little Ego. The more conscious we become, the more in touch we are with our true spirit. We realise that we are part of a greater whole and we then begin to work for the greater good.

I will give you two examples of how Uranus can operate. A friend of mine has Uranus on her Aries Sun by transit. She became involved and is now a chief Spokeswoman for a local campaign against drilling the earth for oil. She is seeing the wider picture and realising what harm it could cause to the environment in the future. By doing this she is crusading for the good of the whole, but is also leaning to develop her own individuality.

Another friend who has been a seeker of higher knowledge all her life, now has Uranus conjunct her Moon by transit. A retired teacher, she scans the internet for useful information and knowledge and posts it to different groups with whom she is involved. This is another example of working for the greater good as she does her bit in helping others to become more aware.

Although both women are working for the greater whole they are also gaining a great deal of self-satisfaction in the process and enhancing their own individuality in this, 'all win', bargain. As we learn how to use Uranus we eventually grow into our uniqueness, then this higher quality is used for the good of the whole.

To sum up Uranus it is the revolutionary spirit that urges and sometimes pushes us to express our own brand of uniqueness. A fully integrated Uranian individual will not only sing, 'I am what I am', but will use this for the betterment of all.

Refractor, Reflector and Dobsonian Telescopes

When someone mentions a name like Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, and Sir Isaac Newton a bell is sure to ring. The brilliant minds of our past that changed the world in the field of Astronomy as we now know will never be forgotten. Each one of these men made amazing discoveries about the cosmos that is the universe and with the exception of Copernicus; the findings which changed everything were done with a telescope. Fast forward to today, in the 21st century, with the incredible advancements in the astronomic telescopic field and with so many options on the market it is difficult to make a choice to choose the right telescope for an aspiring amateur astronomer. With a wide selection to choose from such as the reflecting telescopes, refracting telescopes, Catadioptric telescopes, and Dobsonian telescopes and many more variations it can be difficult for budding amateur astronomers just starting out to select which type of telescope is right for them. This brief intro into the history of the main 3 telescopes on the market today should give the aspiring astronomer what to expect, however this is not a guide for the best telescope, but rather so more of a dressed down history lesson of each telescope

Refractor Telescope

Refractor telescopes, also known as refracting telescopes or dioptric telescopes bend light to make parallel rays converge at a focal point. The refractor telescope design was predominantly used in spy glasses before its use in astronomical telescopes. The refractor telescope was the first kind of telescope invented. It utilises' a glass lens as a medium to refract the rays of light to form an image. Incidentally, the first refracting telescopes invented was by none other than Galileo Galilei. He invented the first refractor telescope with one large glass lens as the objective and a smaller lens as the eyepiece or focal point. In order to be able to refract light the glass lens had to be shaped perfectly depending on the desired size of the image. The focal point would have a glass lens shaped in the opposite fashion of the objective to keep the image from being seen upside down. This design, being one of the first refractor telescope, has come to be known as none other than the Galilean telescope.

As brilliant as the Galilean telescope was, there is always room for improvement, hence in 1611, another astronomer by the name of Johannes Kepler created another variation of the refracting telescope based on the designs of the Galilean telescope. The Keplerian Telescope, as it came to be known, used convex lenses as opposed to Galileo's version which used convex lenses.

This in essence gave the viewer a much wider field of view and much needed eye relief. The downside however being that the image would have been inverted. Other disadvantages of the refractor telescope was its' lack of ability to filter aberrations of the non converged rays. These shortcomings sparked the invention of an achromatic refracting telescope and apochromatic refractors. Achromatic refractor telescopes are pretty self-explanatory. They are intended to display the image without color to mitigate aberrations. Apochromatic refractor telescopes on the other hand, are designed to bring three colors. The viewer would be able to see red, green, and blue wavelengths with minimal aberrations making the apochromatic refracting telescope highly preferable for its time.

Fast forward to the 21st century and refractor telescopes have advanced to such an extent that with the right telescope, viewing a picture clear Pluto through the lenses is not impossible. Also with the advent of technology, computerised goto refractor telescopes are now the norm.

Reflector Telescope

Reflector telescopes were a major improvement upon the refractor telescope which reflected light instead of refracting it. This was because Reflector Telescopes used curved mirrors to capture an image as opposed to the Refractor Telescopes which used lenses. Reflector telescopes were considered to be superior to the refractor telescope design because of the enhanced chromatic quality and potential for an enlarged viewing diameter. There were many proposed designs for a reflecting telescope in the 17th century but Sir Issac Newton is credited with the invention of the first successful working Reflector Telescope, which became known as the Newtonian Telescope

With the success of the Newtonian Telescope arose a number of notable reflector telescopes, albeit with a little variation, that emerged that continues to flourish to this day such as The Cassegrain, The Gregorian, The Ritchey-Chr?tien and The Dall-Kirkham. Many of these designs and its' variations are still applied in today's' more advance astronomical telescopes. The Gregorian reflector telescope design in particular can be found in famous modern telescopes such as the Magellan telescopes, the Giant Magellan Telescope, Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope, Large Binocular Telescope, and common assault rifle or sniper scopes. The most famous of them all being the mighty space telescope, Hubble.

Reflector Telescopes are some of the least expensive telescopes and a good starter telescope for today's' wannabe astronomers. It is the choice of scientists and professional astronomers alike.

Dobsonian Telescope

Dobsonian telescopes were developed in the 1960's by John Dobson, an amateur astronomer. Having been fascinated by the Universe, John Dobson built his telescope, based on the Newtonian reflector telescope, out of every day common materials such as plywood and cardboard and is mostly, if not always alt-azimuth mounted. This simply meant that it had a simple two-axis mount for supporting and rotating the said telescope. This type of modified reflector telescope came to be known as the Dobsonian Telescope. Dobsonian Reflector telescopes are known for being great "deep sky" telescopes, mostly due to its' large aperture. Not only are they efficient for viewing the deep skies of the universe, they are also very light in terms of mass in proportion to the diameter of the objective, in other words, the viewer will have a very large image without an immovable giant telescope. In addition, Dobsonian telescopes are very simple to put together, with the altazimuth mounts typically compact, light-weight, and easy to point, making it a preferred choice for astronomers of all levels. However, for every positive there is a negative and the Dobsonian telescopes is no exception. Due to its large aperture and its design which was optimized for deep sky penetration, an equatorial mount was left out of the design equation, thus a user must move the telescope manually every few minutes or so in order to compensate for the rotation of the Earth. Additionally, it also suffers from balance issues, this is due to the fact that since the Dobsonian Telescope is usually in a fixed relationship to its altitude bearings, an addition or subtraction of equipment's such as finder scopes, and heavy eyepieces can render the unit useless until recalibrated. However, due to its' ability to penetrate the deep dark skies, The Dobsonian Telescope still remains a firm favourite in the Astronomy community for the amateur and professional astronomers alike.

The Truth About Tarot Cards: Don't Get a Reading Until You Know THIS!

What is the truth about tarot readings?

Are they psychic in of themselves? Do they really help predict the future.....or is that simply silly new age nonsense? As someone who LOVES a good tarot reading as much as the next person, I'm always amazed at how much competing and contradictory information there is out there about WHY tarot readings work, and what is actually happening while you are getting yours read by phone.....or in person.

In my view, tarot are a great tool and a time tested technique for symbolic interpretation. You do NOT need to be particularly psychic to be a really good tarot reader. Sounds silly to say.....but it really IS true.

Of course if you DO have a complimentary clairvoyant gift, it's a great way of adding some amazing mojo to the sort of insight, intuition and enlightenment that can come out of a tarot reading. As a matter of fact....I've had some amazing tarot readings from people who do this work professionally, but DON'T believe in psychic powers at all, and some incredible, life changing experiences with psychics who believe in some wild, wacky and crazy psychic stuff as well!

So how would tarot readings be accurate if they are NOT psychic in of themselves?

This is a great question, and one that has been debated for a number of years, by people FAR smarter than I.

Some psychologists for example....believe that the tarot are effective due to some type of unconscious "archetype" selection, and that people "pick" these symbols that seem to reflect a reality that is really represented in their day to day lives.

Others believe that the reader him or herself elevates their OWN consciousness during the reading, and is gifted with some extra insight and intuition as a basis for the chi, consciousness or energy that flows through the cards when used properly.

And of course, others still believe that both ONLY gifted psychics are true tarot readers, and then there are those on the polar opposite side of the street who think the whole industry is silly.
This is very important to know BEFORE you get a reading, as personally.....while I appreciate a reading from those that don't believe in psychic abilities but DO believe in "symbolic archetypes", I don't find those experiences to be all that rewarding. (or accurate!)

Regardless of what you believe, the truth is, until you actually have a reading yourself, you are probably not in a position to really trust ANY perspective.

Me?

As someone who was once skeptical, it wasn't until I had some really mind bending and exhilarating psychic experiences that I became to believe in amy of this, and I'm incredibly grateful I was open minded enough to try....because every since, life has NEVER been more exciting and enlightening as a result!

And I hope the same for YOU!
